About the place

Gyalshing or Geyzing, which means "King's Resident" in Bhutanese, is set among the hills at an elevation of roughly 8500 feet, with panoramic views of the snow-capped mountains and huge valleys. It also serves as the administrative centre for the West district. With its vast potential for all types of tourism activities, the area is quickly becoming a tourist attraction.

The town has a substantial Nepali population along with Bhutia, Lepcha, Limbu, Newari, Rai and Nepali is the primary language spoken in the area.The settlement is located at a height of around 6,500 feet (1,900 m). The town has a temperate temperature for the majority of the year, with snowfall in the area on occasion.

All contact point surfaces, rooms, beds, toilets and kitchen areas are cleaned and sanitised thoroughly at timely intervals. All supplies including materials, luggages are also sanitised before entering the homestay.

Oak Valley Retreat has four well furnished rooms, offering one triple occupancy and three double bedded rooms with attached bathrooms having 24 hours supply of hot and cold water. Additional amenities include free wifi and bonfire.

How to reach?

By road: Geyzing/Gyalshing is roughly 130 kilometres from Siliguri. On the journey to Gyalshing from Siliguri by road, one can experience a thrilling ride down the Teesta River until Melli, where one enters Sikkim and the South District. From Melli, one must travel to Jorethang, from there one can travel directly to Gyalshing through Reshi bazar.

Through motorable roads, Gyalshing is well connected to the rest of Sikkim. Sikkim Nationalised Transport (SNT) buses run frequently between Gyalshing and towns throughout the state, as well as Siliguri. Private cabs are also available for rental or sharing on a regular basis.

By air: The nearest airport is Bagdora Airport via Siliguri at a distance of 140km approx. where you can take a direct or shared taxi.

By train: The nearest train station is New Jalpaiguri train station via Siliguri at a distance of 140km approx. where you can take a direct or shared taxi.
